Latest Updates from Our Project:

Behind the scenes Day 4, 5 and 6 and Sundance Film Festival!
over 8 years ago – Wed, Feb 03, 2016 at 02:38:57 PM

Hey friends,

We have three more behind the scenes videos to share with you! My awesome editor Dan Alvarado has been busy editing the mockumentary, but had time to take a break and finish cutting days behind-the-scenes Days 4, 5 and 6! Links are below.

In the meantime, my DP and I hit the streets to get some extra b-roll footage that we didn't have time to get back in October. Here's a photo of us in January getting (you guessed it) a slow, protracted pan of the Hollywood sign, ala the Golden Gate Bridge shot in The Room.

I try to incorporate as many shout-outs and homages to The Room in the mockumentary as I can. And I've got even more in the 7 other spin-off episodes I've written and will shoot hopefully soon!

Behind-the-scenes Day 4 features interviews with Juliette Danielle, Craig Cackowski (documentarian), me, Richardson Jones (stalker), Hunter Phillips and Brian Fagan (producers), Ian Camucho (scripty) and many more!

Behind-the-scenes Day 5 features Dan Janjigian (Chris-R), Keiko Agena (Gilmore Girls and Gilmore Girls reboot), Jordan Black, me, Jillian Stein (producer), Sharmila Ray (set dresser) and many more of our amazing crew!

Behind-the-scenes Day 6 features Craig Cackowski, Michael Rousselet (Room fan zero), Julia Green (singer/songwriter), Hayes Hargrove (playing my husband), and more incredible crew members!

The Room Actors at the Sundance Film Festival!

Last week, my producers and I attended the Sundance film festival to pitch The Room actors Mockumentary project! We're looking for a place to host the film/web series so we hit the panels, events and parties in Park City, UT to network with folks who can help us find a home for the project and secure additional funds to shoot the remaining episodes. Here we are on Main Street in the middle of a snowstorm talking about the mockumentary! Shanee Edwards is an entertainment journalist, a producer on the mockumentary & my hilarious behind-the-scenes director/interviewer.

I hope you enjoy the videos! Please stay tuned for more updates. We're getting sooo close to having a cut ready. I'm doing ADR next week to fix a few things and hopefully we'll have a finished product soon!

Thanks so much for all of your support! We love the Roomies!

XOXO,

Happy New Year!
over 8 years ago – Wed, Jan 06, 2016 at 03:50:34 PM

Hello Kickstarter Backers,

I hope you rang in 2016 with lots of fun and festivities! I don't know about you, but I'm thinking 2016 is going to be a banner year. With this project coming out, and The Disaster Artist movie in production, 2016 is a year for all things The Room!

Remember our Kickstarter stretch goal - where we promised a vlog chronicling the making of "The Room Actors: Where Are They Now?" We didn't let you down! We had a behind-the-scenes crew filming the entire production of the mockumentary and we recently had time to sort through hours of footage and edit it together!

I've included links below to Days 1-3 of our shoot. Days 4, 5 and 6 will be coming very soon! I want to give a big shout-out to Shanee Edwards who was the director and interviewer for most of the BTS footage. I also want to give big props to Dan Alvarado who is editing our mockumentary and also took the time to cut the BTS footage together. Thanks Dan and Shanee!

DAY 1 is a short montage of the chaos and frenetic activity that happens on the first day of any shoot. We were getting our feet wet here and didn't do too many interviews so we set the chaos to music to kick everything off!

DAY 2 features interviews with Mindy Sterling from Austin Powers, Fred Stoller from Everyone Loves Raymond, Carolyn Minnot (Claudette) UCLA screenwriting professor John Sweet, Kyle Vogt (Peter), Kickstarter VIP backer Robert Keavney, and me.

DAY 3 features Philip Haldiman (Denny), Richard Tyson, Kyle Vogt (Peter), Greg Ellery (Steven) producer Hunter Philips, many additional actors, crew and me again (sorry - you're gonna get so tired of seeing my grill!)

Stay tuned for BTS of DAYS 4, 5 and 6 coming within a week! They feature Juliette Danielle, Dan Janjigian, more Craig Cackowski, Keiko Agena from Gilmore Girls, a shout-out to all our VIP backers who were on set and so much more. We had a lot of fun making this project and I think it shows through in these videos!

As we finish our edits on the mockumentary, it's exciting to realize that we are coming into the home stretch. Yes!!! I'll be fulfilling most if not all of the Kickstarter rewards in the next several months. I'll have extra stock of the mugs, t-shirts, posters, etc. so if you decide you want to get something else, please visit https://the-room.backerkit.com and place your order now. We won't run any credit cards on Backerkit until we are ready to send out the order itself.

Thanks so much for all your support!

Editing like mad!
over 8 years ago – Sat, Nov 28, 2015 at 02:54:41 PM

Hey everyone!

I hope you all had an incredible Thanksgiving with family and friends and ate lots of good food! Personally, I gorged myself on turkey and pie and loved every minute of it.

Wow! I can't believe it's been a year since the campaign was funded. So much has happened since this time last year thanks to all of your donations. Namely, we have an incredible film in the can and we're editing like mad to get it ready to show to you guys.

Here's a shot of the editor, Dan Alvarado working on a scene with Juliette and her stalker turned husband, played by Richardson Jones. This scene cracks me up every time I watch it.

Dan hard at work

Almost daily, Dan and I sit together and go over footage, piecing it all together. We shot on two red dragons simultaneously and left room for improv so we have lots of fun takes to chose from.

We're psyched with how the teaser turned out! Please, please share it and forward it to all the Room fans you know. We want everyone with even a passing interest in the Room to see it. In case you missed it in the previous update, here's a link:

I'd like to give a shout out to my DP, Jeanne Tyson and her amazing crew! Thanks to them, our footage looks very professional. In fact, we have almost too much good material and the rough cut is waaay longer than I intended. It's a good problem to have - no complaints here! In anything, it means I'll have lots of fun deleted scenes to include on the DVD/Blu-Ray. I'll keep you posted as we get close to locking picture and move into sound and color correction.

Thanks again for your support! We can't wait to share "The Room Actors: Where Are They Now" with you!

8 Days Until Principal Photography, New Cast Additions!
over 8 years ago – Thu, Sep 10, 2015 at 10:31:13 AM

Hello Kickstarter backers!

We are super excited to announce that we are only 8 days away from shooting the 22 minute pilot of The Room Actors: Where Are They Now?

Since my last update, we've been incredibly busy. I have so much great news to share! First things first: CAST ADDITIONS!

We are stoked to announce that Mindy Sterling, aka Frau Farbissina from the Austin Powers franchise (among numerous other roles), has joined our cast for the pilot! Mindy is a hilarious comedienne, talented actress and all around great person. We're only 9 days away from  filming with Mindy Sterling!!

Richard Tyson has joined the cast! Richard played the infamous "Buddy Revell" from 3 O'Clock High, "Cullen!" from Kindergarten Cop, the steamy love interest in Two Moon Junction, the cop in There's Something About Mary...the list goes on! He's so talented and funny. We're 10 days away from shooting with Richard. How'd we get so lucky?

If you've seen Everybody Loves Raymond, Seinfeld, My Name is Earl or almost any other sitcom that was on the air in the 90s and 00s, you recognize this talented guy. The incomparable Fred Stoller has joined our cast. Fred is so funny, his timing is impeccable and he's really, really nice too. I can't wait to see him in action!

Ok, Gilmore Girl fans will love this one. Keiko Agena, the best friend in Gilmore Girls, will be playing, wait for it...a best friend in the pilot! The super cool Keiko is also fun, sassy and has dry wit that will make you thirsty. She's also known for Shameless, Scandal, Felicity, ER and Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon. We're t-minus 16 days away from shooting our scene with Keiko!

LOCATIONS

Some of you saw my photos of location scouting in the last update or on the project FACEBOOK page. We've been so busy over the last few weeks securing our final locations and I'm psyched to say, we've locked them all down! We're shooting in a bar and a diner and several private homes in Los Angeles.

SET VISITS

We are currently confirming all of the set visits, extra roles, and speaking parts for our awesome Kickstarter donors, like yourselves. I can't wait to meet the donors and post photos of you on set, participating in the action!

CREW

I'm psyched that we've rounded out our crew and are ready for production. Yes!! We knew it would happen! We also have a great behind-the-scenes team ready to capture all the revelry taking place when everyone thinks no one is looking. And of course, our behind-the-scenes team will conduct interviews with The Room actors, which we'll use to put together our mini-documentary that certain Kickstarter donors will receive as part of their rewards package!

That's enough for now! Please stay tuned for my next update, which will be coming in a few days!

Thanks again for your generous support, which is making this project possible. We owe it all to you, Kickstarter donors!

XO and chocolate,

Robyn Paris

Location scouting, table read and new cast member announced!
over 8 years ago – Sun, Aug 09, 2015 at 06:14:15 PM

Hey everyone,

A lot is happening with The Room Actors: Where Are They Now? mockumentary! Several weeks ago, I announced on the FB page that we're uber excited that Craig Cackowski of Community and Comedy Central's Drunk History will be playing the part of the "documentarian" in our web series. I've been a fan of Craig's since I saw him perform on the Second City Main Stage in Chicago when I lived there almost 15 years ago! I took an improv class with him at Improv Olympic in Chicago way back then. He's a great person and very talented.

Here's a bit more about Craig:

Craig Cackowski is a veteran improviser whose many credits include “Officer Cackowski” on Community and dozens of historical figures on Comedy Central’s Drunk History. Craig is a mainstay in the Los Angeles improv community where he’s well known as a former Second City Chicago Mainstage Company member and current performer and instructor at Improv Olympic West. Other film and television appearances include Veep, Newsreaders, Comedy Bang Bang, The Mindy Project, How I Met Your Mother, Trust Us With Your Life, Workaholics, The Kings Of Summer, 21 And Over and Year of The Dog.

TABLE READ
On July 19th, we had a table read for the new mockumentary script at a black box theatre in Hollywood. It was great to hear the script aloud by some hilarious actors who brought it to life. Click here to see pics of the table read!

PRODUCTION DESIGN TEAMDid I tell you that we've got an incredible production design team in Michelle Yu and Cindy Chao? They did the production design for this year's Grandma, starring Lily Tomlin and the Sundance grand jury prize nominated Save The Date, among many, many other incredible films. I met Michelle at Sundance in January and discovered (to my extreme delight) that she was a huge Room fan! What luck. We're really excited to have these talented ladies on board.

LOCATION SCOUTING
Over the past week, we've been heavy into location scouting. If you happen to have any connections at an old Hollywood-style club or bar OR any leads on a mom & pop diner that would let us film, please let us know. We're looking for places that will let us shoot for cheap in the Los Angeles area.

Here are a few pictures:

This place could work for the old Hollywood bar, but CSI offered them $1,000 and they said that wasn't enough. Our pocket book is too small for this one!

SHOOT DATES
We've settled on September 18-21 and 25-27 as our shoot dates for the mockumentary pilot! Stay tuned for more details coming soon!

Thanks again for your support of this project. Please continue spreading the word about the mockumentary to your Room fan friends and asking them to visit our FB page and check us out on Twitter. Your continued support will help us build a great audience for the project, which will ensure we can shoot more episodes. Yah!

Thanks a gazillion,

Robyn Paris and The Room Actors
